Jamna Auto Industries Limited has announced plans to set up two newmanufacturing units for parabolic springs and air-suspension springs for commercial vehicles at Hosur and Chennai. The Hosur facility is being set up to manufacture parabolic springs and the plant is expected to go on-stream in December 2011. The Hosur facility will have annual capacity of 36,000 MTs. Jamna Auto has gone for major capacity expansion for parabolic springs to meet the demand of major commercial vehicle manufacturers - Daimler India, Renault-Nissan, Leyland-Nissan and Ashok Leyland. Tata Motors Ltd’s requirement of parabolic springs is being met from the Company’s Malanpur plant. The greenfield plant at Chennai will manufacture Air suspension, bogey suspension and lift axles. The air suspensions will be made in technical collaboration with Ridewell Corporation, a leading suspension manufacturers in USA. The Company has already acquired the land near Chennai and prototypes developed are undergoing rigorous trial. Air suspensions are being increasingly used in low floor buses. The commercial production is expected to commence from July 2011 onwards. Both the plants are being set up at a project cost of Rs. 80 crore. Commenting on the occasion, Randeep Jauhar, CEO, Jamna Auto Limited, said, “India has firmly established its position among the fastest growing and cost-efficient automobile markets in the world, leading to large global automakers setting up their production units here. Sothern India has been a key region for these automakers. As a strategic initiative, we have decided to expand our manufacturing presence in this region. It will not only enable us to gain proximity to our customers but would also enable us to provide cost efficient quality products. With the Indian CV majors now gradually shifting over to parabolic springs, we at Jamna Auto have decided to increase parabolic capacity.” Jamna Auto, second largest spring manufacturers in the world, had recorded a consolidated sales turnover of Rs. 661 crore and profit after tax of Rs. 11 crore for the financial year 2009-10. In the first nine months of the current financial year 2010-11, the Company recorded a consolidated turnover of Rs. 696 crore and profit after tax of Rs. 25 crore. Jamna Auto Industries is India’s largest and among the world’s third largest commercial vehicle spring manufacturer. The Company manufactures leaf springs and parabolic springs for M&HCVs, with an installed capacity of 180,000 mtpa. The manufacturing facilities are located at Yamuna Nagar (Haryana), Chennai, Malanpur (Madhya Pradesh) and Jamshedpur. Jamna Auto’s wholly owned subsidiary – Jai Suspension Systems LLP, has its plant at Pant Nagar (Uttarakhand).
